Forecast Analysis

How accurate are the forecasts? Check the correlation graphs below for PM2.5, PM10 and Ozone for the past 30 days. (Note that all values are based on the AQI, and that a maximum threshold of 300 is used).

In the above graph, the forecast is data is the forecast one day in advance (i.e. the forecast computed today for tomorrow).

There are many forecast models, for different regions of the globe - below are few of them. Just click on any of them to see the animated map for the given model. For a full list of all forecast model and polutants, check the forecast/model page.

Please note that all above analysis are done on the World Air Quality Index (WAQI) project own budget.
We did not receive any subsidies from any of the intuitions publishing Air Quality forecast models.


Future Improvements

Do you like our forecast model analysis tool called GOA?

Our objective is to create the best world air quality ensemble forecast - which can maximize the forecast accuracy and efficiency for any place on earth (and especially for the 600+ cities covered on the aqicn.org).

We are now looking at extending this GOA tool with many more models and features such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) based model correction, real-time deterministic statistic analysis, or automatic emission correction.

We are not in favor of replacing deterministic models with AI models, but rather to use the AI to complement the models and create the best ensemble model using deep learning solutions.

Do you link this idea? We too! But our funding is currently too limited to allow us investing in it, and this is why we need help - your help!

The above prediction is based on composite meta model, computed using several Air Quality Forecasting Systems (AQFS): The above map is based on the PM2.5 surface level modeling, and colors are following the US EPA AQI standard.
